A coat does much more than simply keep a child warm
Koats for Kids has been a Winnipeg institution since 1989. Every year, from October to February, the program distributes winter outerwear to families – for some children, having a warm coat means attending school on a cold day, instead of staying home. It’s part of United Way’s commitment to helping children and youth be all they can be.
Thank you to our partners:
I want to volunteer
Picture 16,000 pounds of coats, hats, mittens, scarves, snow pants and boots. That’s a lot of sorting, organizing and assembling! Join us for a few hours so we can get orders out to kids quickly.
A volunteer shift is the perfect way to introduce philanthropy to your own kids. We also appreciate small groups of friends and co-workers. Winnipeg’s community spirit can’t be beat!
Please call 204-586-5628 or email koats@UnitedWayWinnipeg.mb.ca to set up a shift.
The Koats for Kids Volunteer Centre is located at 3172 Portage Avenue.
I want to donate
Donations can be dropped off at any Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Station, Perth’s location or AMJ Campbell Van Lines office at 12–1333 Niakwa Road. If you have a large donation, call 204-586-5628 or email koats@UnitedWayWinnipeg.mb.ca.
Our focus is children’s winter outerwear. There are many organizations that would be glad to accept your other clothing donations.
We appreciate all sizes (infants, children, youth) of winter outerwear:
- gently used winter jackets (clean with working zippers)
- snow pants and boots
- hats, scarves and mittens
I want to order a coat
To place your Koats for Kids order, please connect with a staff member or volunteer at your child’s school, daycare or agency. Your child will also receive his or her winter gear there. The Koats for Kids Volunteer Centre is not open to the public.
If you are a school, daycare or agency, you can place your Koats for Kids order online. When possible, winter coats are sent with a hat, mittens and scarf. We also have boots in limited numbers.
