Five years of your life can determine your future.

Did you know that 90% of your brain’s development occurs before age five?

Our experiences, good and bad, supportive or traumatic, drastically impact every aspect of our lives, from personal interactions to professional aspirations.

Join United Way Winnipeg as we present the Brain Architecture game, a hands-on, group activity that will reveal how and why some children may struggle where others excel.

A United Way Winnipeg facilitator will guide small teams through the three parts of the game: an introduction; the crafting of a model of a child’s brain; and a debrief discussion.

You’ll see—with your own eyes—how life’s experiences can have a significant impact on a child’s brain development. You’ll understand that with the right supports, young people who start off life in adversity can still thrive.

Why this is so important

  • Brains don’t build themselves; it’s a team effort!

  • We can’t control what happens to us in life. With the right support introduced at the right stage of childhood, we can learn adaptive ways of dealing with stressful situations and avoid long-term consequences to our health and well-being.

  • Early interventions and support by caregivers and communities can help kids develop positive coping skills to buffer the effects of negative experiences. These resiliency skills will ensure kids are better equipped to deal with life’s challenges throughout their early years, youth, and adulthood.

The Brain Architecture Game is perfect for workplaces

  • It’s a new and innovative professional development offering.
  • It complements the other ways your staff have engaged in the community−like United Way Winnipeg’s Day of Caring and Make the Month simulation.
  • It’s a great activity for collaboration, experiential learning and team building.

What past participants have to say:

“By knowing what a child needs to live a happy, healthy life, we can invest early on in programs and initiatives, to make sure kids and families have the support they need.”

“It was very useful in showing the importance of having a good, strong start in life and prepare us for dealing with possible future challenges.”
