As we head into the holiday season and our thoughts turn to family and to celebrating all that we have to be thankful for, thousands of Winnipeggers are struggling to hang on. Their thoughts are focused on somehow finding an affordable place to live, or finally landing a stable job, or even just being able to provide a lunch for their kids to take to school every day next week.
What does it take to have every single person in a workplace give to their United Way campaign? According to Tracy Boyer, co-Employee Campaign Chair of Costco East Winnipeg #153, all it takes is a giving spirit and a bit of education on what United Way does.
“There are just so many agencies supported by United Way, and most of us have no idea. It doesn’t just help those that are in poverty, it touches everyone’s lives. It’s all over the whole city and I don’t think a lot of people realize it.“
“From the first time I heard Take Me to the Pilot’s “Green Eyes” I knew it had a greater purpose. I mean it. It was just so brilliant and perfect. I always told myself that if there was ever an opportunity to use it for a good cause I would jump at it.”

The labour community rose early and shone with support for United Way last Wednesday, kicking off their 2012 United Way campaign with a fundraising breakfast at the Union Centre.
Inspiring performances by drummers from the Buffalo Gals of the North End Women’s Centre and Manitoba School Improvement Program’s Peaceful Village initiative had employees up and dancing in their seats by the end of the night.
