COVID-19 is having far-reaching impact across our city.  For those able, the Fund will make it easy for people to give what they can. The fund will also make it easy for a range of agencies to get the support they need to care for community members.

Every dollar raised by the Fund will go directly to front line community agencies who are supporting populations particularly vulnerable for the virus.

Donations raised through this fund will be allocated based on the priority needs identified by Winnipeg’s COVID-19 Community Response Team, that includes health officials and front-line service providers.

Immediate help for agencies who work with Winnipeg’s most vulnerable

Starting immediately, the Fund will support agencies to implement Public Health recommendations to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 among vulnerable groups. Working with community partners, current needs include for example:

Basic needs – ensure people have access to essentials, such as food, baby formula, diapers hygiene products and cleaning supplies.

Helping those experiencing homelessness – much needs to be done to increase social distancing in shelters and work toward alternate ways to provide food, hygiene and other essentials.

Help for the vulnerable who are isolated, including older adults – this includes finding ways to reach seniors with food and virtual health checks and companionship

Mental health support – for those at risk and including, individuals and families experiencing job loss & economic strain.

As the situation evolves, so too will the needs in the community. United Way Winnipeg will be in ongoing discussions to identify how best to respond. United Way Winnipeg will report back on impact.

“We come together as a community realizing that we are truly stronger together. We take action to make sure that no one is left behind. That’s just what Winnipeggers do.” says Connie Walker, President and CEO of United Way Winnipeg.
