On July 6, 2012, our city lost a great leader and devoted champion. But Bill Norrie’s legacy of community service and spirit will live on for Winnipeggers everywhere, including the volunteers and staff at United Way of Winnipeg.
Bill’s involvement with United Way dates back to the early 1990s, when he began serving on the Board of Trustees for six years (two terms). In 1996, Bill led a record breaking fundraising effort when he chaired United Way’s annual campaign for the first time. Then in 1999, he smashed his own record and raised a total of $11 million for our community when he chaired an unprecedented second campaign. Bill also served on United Way’s Journey Forward task group – a transformational initiative that prepared United Way to deepen and broaden our impact in the new millennium.
Recently, despite his failing health, Bill and Helen Norrie could always be counted on to show their continued support for United Way’s work through their attendance at report sessions and many other events.
Bill’s warmth and passion for our community is deeply appreciated and will be remembered always.
