Volunteer and make a real difference now!
Volunteers are at the heart and soul of everything we do! Every year, thousands of people give their incredible gifts of service to United Way Winnipeg. We simply would not be what we are without them!
Want to volunteer with us?
There are lots of different ways to make a difference today!
Host a collection drive
Unite your friends, family, neighbours, or colleagues and gather essential items for people struggling to meet their basic needs.
Register your drive, and we’ll send you promotional materials to help raise awareness.
A United Way Winnipeg agency partner will make sure these items get safely to the homes of Winnipeggers who could use a helping hand.
Share the Warmth
Keeping little Winnipeggers warm with Koats for Kids
Every year, from September to January, Winnipeggers donate over 6,000 coats and Koats for Kids shares this winter gear with Winnipeg families.
Join us!
With your support, we can make a difference in the lives of Winnipeggers and help ensure that no child is left in the cold.
How can you help?
Host a Koats for Kids drive!
Let your friends, family, and colleagues know that you’re collecting donations of new and gently used children’s winter outerwear and encourage them to pitch in. Winter coats, ski pants, hats, mitts, scarves and boots are needed in all kid sizes!
Tell us about your drive and we’ll send you an email with tips on organizing a successful drive and a poster to help promote it!
Once your drive has wrapped up, please check to make sure coats are clean, in good condition, and the zippers work. Please place all items in a plastic bag before bringing them to a Koats for Kids drop-off location.
Create care kits from home
Give Winnipeggers living on a low income a helping hand with the essentials.
Basic items make a world of difference for Winnipeggers living on a low income. You can help ease some pressure on individuals and families by assembling and donating personal care kits, activity kits, or family meal kits. We’ll give you a list of supplies, assembly instructions, and directions on how to donate completed kits to an agency partner in your community.
When your kits are ready to be delivered, contact us, and we’ll help connect you with a United Way Winnipeg agency partner in your area, or you can bring them to:

Volunteer your time and talent
Looking for other ways to make a positive impact? Below are some opportunities that might suit your skills and interests while making a meaningful difference in our community.
Opportunities for retirees
United Way Winnipeg’s What’s Next program offers retirees opportunities to put their skills and experience to meaningful use with a variety of exciting volunteer activities throughout the year.
Become a mentor
Young people do better in school and experience improved mental health when they have supportive mentoring relationships in their lives. Build a supportive relationship with a young Winnipegger today through United Way Winnipeg’s United Mentoring Network.
Volunteer through work
Workplaces across our city get involved and volunteer with United Way Winnipeg to build community awareness, inspire action, and join together towards a common goal of improving the lives of everyone who lives here.
We’ll help you create customized virtual or in-person employee engagement activities to engage, connect, and inspire your teams throughout the year. You can even focus on a need that meets your organization’s vision for a better Winnipeg!
Light a Spark
Spark brings together community-based organizations with people who want to use their professional skills for social good. Spark makes high-impact matches based on skills, experience, personalities, and causes that both volunteers and agencies are passionate about.
