For Every Family

A special initiative to nurture Winnipeggers by strengthening 24 family resource centres across our city.

Strong families, resilient communities

We’re igniting the potential of kids, families, and neighbourhoods and making sure help is always close to home through an innovative partnership called For Every Family.

Together with the philanthropic and community sector, Government of Manitoba, and United Way Winnipeg donors, we’re brightening the futures of families in these ways:

More kids ready to learn

Your generosity helps put kids on the path for success by preparing them for school and life.

More families staying together

Giving united helps reunite families and extends support like counselling and parenting classes to prevent kids from entering care so they grow up with relatives.

More families becoming self-sufficient

Putting more money in the pockets of low-income families with opportunities like job training and accessing benefits.

How are we helping even more families?

Ensuring access

We’re providing resources to support FRC staff, so the doors at family resource centres can stay open longer (including evenings and weekends, wherever possible) and more Winnipeggers can find help when they need it.

Better services

We’re enhancing and extending critical services like food programs and counselling to nurture the well-being of more Winnipeggers.

More collaboration

We bring family resource centres together as a network to learn from each other, build on each other’s strengths, and coordinate efforts to go even further for families.

“Previously, we operated largely in silos. Now with the network, it is much easier to plan and share, which benefits all our communities.”

– FRC Executive Director

What are family resource centres?

They’re our community’s living room, where ordinary magic happens every day.

Nestled in neighbourhoods across our city, family resource centres are welcoming places of safety and support where families can meet basic needs, find belonging, and get started on the path to better lives.

It’s where a refugee family can find community and healing. A single parent can sink into a cozy sofa and work on their resume while their kids make crafts. An unsheltered Winnipegger can eat a warm meal, do laundry, and get help finding housing.

Government of Manitoba Partnership

The Government of Manitoba recognizes the impact of family resource centres in our community.

$7.5M in donations raised by vision philanthropists were matched by the Government of Manitoba from 2016-2022. The Government of Manitoba generously agreed to continue to support the initiative, matching donor gifts up to $4.5M over three years ending March 31, 2025. $6M over three years ending March 31, 2028, with a particular focus on keeping families together.

Most recently, the Government of Manitoba has increased their support to $6M over three years ending March 31, 2028, with a particular focus on keeping families together.

A network of care and compassion

Your gift means Winnipeggers can walk through the welcoming doors of these family resource centres and find the help they need when they need it.

Be a lifeline for Winnipeg families

When families don’t have to live in survival mode, something powerful happens. They can make positive choices. They lean into their potential. They build better futures.

Then, the goodness spreads—into neighbourhoods and across our community. When we invest in families, we all win.
