It is with very mixed emotion that the volunteer Board of Trustees of United Way Winnipeg announces that Connie Walker has communicated her plan to retire in April 2023. Connie has been a passionate community leader inspiring a united way of working in our city for over 14 years, 8 of those as President and CEO. She will be missed!
In her tenure as President and CEO since 2014, Connie has worked together with volunteers, donors, partners across our community and staff to accomplish so much, including raising record levels of revenue for our community translating to lives changed and a better Winnipeg for all of us. Under Connie’s leadership, United Way Winnipeg strengthened its commitment to sustained funding to a now larger network of 125 agencies and programs. Additionally, United Way Winnipeg has championed systemic change in areas of homelessness, family supports, youth mental health, 211 service, and more. Connie has led the organization with a deep commitment to addressing equity and inclusion through relationships of trust, confidence, and accountability. And today, United Way Winnipeg is strongly positioned for the future.
“Connie has been an amazing leader and devoted community builder. She inspired Winnipeggers from all parts of our community to work together, ultimately making a difference for so many people, in so many ways,” said Paul Norris, Chair, United Way Winnipeg Board of Trustees. “We cannot thank Connie enough for her many contributions and for demonstrating so clearly that kindness inspires the best in all of us. Our community is better because of her conviction, leadership, and grace.”
Search for a new CEO begins
“I am deeply grateful to have worked with remarkable volunteers, donors, agencies, partners across all sectors, and staff to make a difference in a city I love. I am excited for a new leader to bring fresh ideas to the important work of making Winnipeg better for all. I will be working closely with the Board of Trustees and the new President and CEO to ensure a smooth transition in the spring,” says Connie Walker.
The Board of Trustees will immediately begin the search for a new President and CEO, while Connie and the United Way Winnipeg team of volunteers and staff focus on the 2022 Campaign and important work in the community. We know Winnipeggers will wish Connie well, while rallying to raise as much as we possibly can to address the significant need in our city.
